I have been actively involved in online business development since 1997 and at one time was one of the world’s leading web2.0 pioneers, using streaming online video as a marketing tool way back in 1998 when the fastest internet connection available to us was a 56k modem connection. As a matter of fact, half the population connected to the internet in Australia were still on 28k modem connections. Back in those days, when you mentioned broadband people would say “What’s that?”.
How things have changed…
Over the years I have seen many online fads come and go, but one thing has always remained the same. If you want to make money online… You have to get eyeballs to your site, and the best way to do that… Is to grab that much coveted number 1 position in Google.
The website, SearchEngineOptimization-SEO.com.au was established in 2008 in response to the many ‘cries for help’ that I have received from a myriad of online business owners and internet entrepreneurs that have contacted me for assistance over the last few years.
Here are some examples of some of the problems that I come across:
Scenario 1:
I get a phone call… A gentleman on the other end of the line says… ” About a year ago I paid a web designer $2,500 to build me this website and in the 12 months it has been running I have only had 36 unique visitors to the site. What’s going on? “.
So I ask him to submit a written request via the contact page on my website and tell him that I will get back to him within 24 hours of receiving the written request. Once I have received the written submission, I go and have a look at the website.
After about 10 seconds it is obvious to me that the website designer has not performed any on-site search engine optimisation whatsoever. The title of the website says ”Real Estate For Sale - Joe Blow’s Real Estate”.
Now… There are about 159,000,000 results when you type ‘ real estate for sale ‘ into Google, and I am guessing that this guy ranks at about number 149,000,000. As a matter of fact, he ranks number 6 for ‘ Joe Blow’s Real Estate ‘ and his business name is unique to his business.
For seven months this real estate agent has been banging his head against a wall trying to figure out how to get his website to start bringing clients into his office. He has made a few phone calls to the “so called” SEO experts and they are quoting him thousands of dollars to get his website ranking in the search engines. He feels like he has already thrown 2 1/2 grand down the drain and he is just not willing to throw any more. His webdesigner hasn’t got a clue about SEO… And finally… A friend of his suggests that he call me.
24 hours later Joe receives my 1 FREE recommendation for his website via email and he pays his webmaster $25 to implement the recommended change.
6 weeks later Joe’s website is on the 2nd page of google and attracting around 50 “highly targeted” visitors per month. At the end of 6 weeks one of the leads from his website has purchased a house through his office netting him a cozy little $9,000 commission.
